Marty's Goldenaires plans summer schedule

BESSEMER — Marty’s Goldenaires began its 63rd performance season April 27 when it played at the Vietnam Veterans dinner in Hurley.

On May 25, they played in Woodruff, Wis., during the town’s 125th anniversary celebration.

The band’s assistant director, Dustin Pitrone, said that new songs for this summer include “Zoot Suit Riot,” by the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, “Take On Me,” by A-Ha, and an uptempo version of the “Dances with Wolves” theme he arranged.

Tom DeCarlo, of Ironwood, has been responsible for Marty’s Goldenaires four national appearances over the past decade, to Nashville, Tenn., Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Indianapolis, according to a news release, “following up with the legwork of 10 men.”

The tentative summer schedule for the band includes:

—June 13, 5 p.m., concert for the Michigan Municipal League’s Education Summit, Bessemer.

—June 21, time to be determined, concert at Relay for Life, Massie Field, Bessemer.

—June 23, 1 p.m., Musky Fest parade and concert, Hayward, Wis.

—June 29, 2 p.m., Michigan State American Legion Convention, parade and concert, Sault Ste. Marie.

—June 30, 2 p.m., concert, Munising.

—July 4, 11 a.m., parade, Marenisco; 1 p.m., parade, Wakefield; 7 p.m., parade and performance before fireworks, Bessemer.

—July 5, 8 p.m., concert, Ramsay.

—July 7, 1 p.m., parade, Bruce Crossing.

—July 17, 1 p.m., Two Harbors, Minn.

—Aug. 3, 1 p.m., performance, Iron County Fair, Saxon, Wis.

—Aug. 4, noon, Flambeau-Rama, Park Falls, Wis.

—Aug. 8, 6:30 p.m., concert, Gogebic County Fair, Ironwood.

—Aug. 24, noon, Marty’s 30th annual town picnic fundraiser, Bluff Valley Park, Bessemer.

—Aug. 31, 4:30 p.m., Festival Italiano, Hurley.

—Sept. 1, 1 p.m., Laborfest, Ontonagon.
