People have parked on the north side of the street for decades, said Mayor John Frello, but it is the city’s right of way.
No one came forward when the project was being planned, said Council member Doug Olsen.
“We’re not going to change things at the eleventh hour,” Frello said. “The opportunity to provide that kind of input is long past.”
City manager Micheal Uskiewicz said that he is looking at property lots nearby to use for parking.
The council approved a $78,648 change order for the park project.
Rukkila, Negro, & Associates, CPAS, PC, Houghton, Mich., won a contract with the city of Bessemer to provide auditing services, as they were the lowest bidder at $9,500.
The council approved the signing of the articles of incorporation for the Michigan’s Western Gateway Trail Authority.
Maryann Bennetts, president of the Bessemer Housing Board, was reappointed as a member of the housing board for a five year term.
Uskiewicz said that over 40 letters to property owners were sent to address blight issues. Most of them were sent to landlords that live out of the area.
