Workers at Gogebic Community College prepare the new second floor above the automotive technology space for the next phase of a construction project Monday. The next phase includes passing electrical inspection and starting to drywall.
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — Construction is rolling right along in the Carl Kleimola Applied Technology Center at Gogebic Community College.
Twelve workers from Angelo Luppino, Lindquist Electric and other local subcontractors were busy Tuesday preparing for the drywall to arrive, said foreman Bill Tregembo, of Angelo Luppino Inc.
“There will be a lot of lighting. It was 26 feet up in the air before,” said Jon Werkmeister, automotive technology instructor.
The department is gaining floor space and losing ceiling space, Werkmeister said.
Addititonal improvements include a new alignment center lift, two additional lifts, and a new air compressor.
Construction is on target for completion in time for the start of classes, said Tregembo.
Drywall is expected to arrive today and it will be installed as soon as the electricians finish. The electrical work must pass inspection first, said GCC president James Lorenson.
Construction began this spring to use the wasted space above the automotive technology center, with new classrooms, a lecture hall, a conference room, and offices to make use of the new second floor.
The project is a $4 million investment.
