Joyce Arlene (Maki) Price

HIBBING, Minn. — Joyce Arlene (Maki) Price, 79, of Hibbing, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2013, after a brief struggle with cancer.

She was born June 18, 1934, in Ironwood, Mich., to Jennie and Martin Maki. She graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood and attended Gogebic Community College.

Joyce was married to Leslie E. Price on Aug. 26, 1956, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood. During her married life Joyce lived in Ely, Ironwood, Shawville, Quebec, Ear Falls and Cochenour, Ontario, and Hibbing, during her husband’s career as a mining engineer/supervisor. She worked as a secretary for several firms, most recently for Al Diehl and Mike Fay insurance agencies of Hibbing.

Joyce loved gardening, baking, handiwork, the outdoors, curling, golf and music. She brightened her family’s life with the songs she had for every occasion, and she was a lifelong participant in vocal and instrumental music. She loved her Lord and was a faithful servant of her church, as a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Chisholm.

Joyce was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and her family always came first. She is survived by her husband, Leslie; her four sons, Dwight (Susan Stith), Nathan (Joanna Price), Arthur and Craig; her sisters, Dorothy Tibaldo, Marilyn Vuorenmaa, Janice DiMeio and Karen Henning; her brothers, Donald Maki and Marvin Maki; her aunt, Signe Saari; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and her grandchildren, Laurel, Susan, Jeremy, Ronan, LiLi, Gracie, Callum and Theo.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Chisholm on Friday, June 28. A visitation will be held at noon, with the service to follow at 1 p.m.

A funeral and service of Christian burial will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood on Monday, July 1, with visitation at 10 a.m., with the service to follow at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in the Sunset Acres Cemetery in Ironwood Township.

Arrangements are by Range Funeral Service and Crematory, Ketola-Burla Funeral Home in Ironwood.
