Pukall building damaged in fire

ARBOR VITAE, Wis. — Five fire departments battled a blaze in a building behind Pukall Lumber Company’s main office on Wednesday, according to the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s department received a call about the fire at the business on Wisconsin 70 in Arbor Vitae at 3:05 p.m.

There was heavy damage to the single building, but the departments were able to keep the fire from spreading.

Arbor Vitae Assistant Fire Chief Mike Van Meter said St. Germain, Plum Lake, Woodruff and Minocqua fire departments responded through a mutual aid agreement.

The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
