Youngsters help prepare Gogebic fair

IRONWOOD — Preparations for the Aug. 8-10 Gogebic County Fair are again getting a boost this year through the juvenile court system.

The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners learned Wednesday that some youngsters who have been sentenced to community service are assisting in painting and other tasks to prepare for the 92nd annual county fair.

Chad Novascone is supervising the community service project for the second consecutive year.

Commissioners expressed appreciation for the help from the youngsters and the numerous other volunteers who are lending a hand to spruce up the fairgrounds on Cloverland Drive in Ironwood.

Ticket prices for this year’s fair have increased for Friday through Sunday.

The cost for Thursday remains at $10, but the admission price for the final three days has been increased to $12 daily.

A season’s pass is available for $30.

According to the fair board, there had not been an increase in admission prices since 2008.

Grandstand entertainment is free with the price of admission, as are all rides.
