Kimball turns 100

Iron County town gathers to mark centennial

KIMBALL, Wis. — People came from far and wide to Kimball on Saturday to help the town celebrate its 100th birthday.

The event took place at the Kimball Community Center, and featured food, games and live music.

According to town chairman Ron Ahonen, the centennial committee began planning in May of 2011.

“I feel very relieved that this day is finally here,” Ahonen said. “A lot of work went into this and we’re glad that people can come and celebrate.”

Attendees dined on roast pig that had been cooked over charcoal for over 8 hours. There were also hot dogs, a variety of side dishes and desserts for attendees.

“We had a lot of good food,” Ahonen said. “We hope that everyone made sure to eat something because it was delicious.”

After eating, people were invited to play horse shoes, take a trip into the bounce house or search through hundreds of old photos on display of Kimball throughout the years.

For Ahonen, the day was a success.

“I want to thank my committee for all of their hard efforts and the sponsors for helping us out,” Ahonen said. “Also, thank you to everybody that came out and enjoyed the day, and celebrated with us.”

To wrap up the centennial celebration, area residents are invited to attend the annual Kimball Town Picnic on Aug. 18 at the Kimball Town Park.

According to Ahonen, the event is normally only for Kimball residents, but this year, it’s open to everyone.

“It’s the last hoorah, and we hope to see a lot of people there,” Ahonen said.
