Ironwood business offers year-round gardening

IRONWOOD — Interior Gardens is slated to open at 105 Suffolk Street in Ironwood on Monday.

The store will sell organic and ecofriendly gardening supplies for indoor gardening, including hydroponics, said store manager Jim Super.

Super said he and another employee from their main store in Minneapolis have been working on readying the space for more than two weeks; refinishing the floors, gutting the upstairs and painting.

“We’re bringing the building back from the brink,” Super said. The plan is to open one side of the store, and finish remodeling the other side later.

The owner, Brett Hilde, has always wanted to open a second location and really saw Ironwood as an untapped market, said a manager at the Minneapolis store, Luke Hall.

This type of gardening is very popular in Minneapolis, Super said.

“Indoor gardening is a major trend that has been unexplored for a lot of the midwest,” said Hall. “We’re really a one-stop shop for year-round gardening.”

The store plans to be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., said Super, although it will depend on what store traffic is like.
