IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — The fifth annual “Flyin’ 4 Food” campaign sponsored by Great Lakes Airlines during the month of September, Hunger Action Month, is underway, according to Great Lakes Station manager Marti Armata.
Each Monday a donor’s name will be drawn, and the winner will receive a free round-trip ticket to Minneapolis.
Last year the Gogebic-Iron County Airport took third place in the internal competition to collect the most food for their community, with just over 400 pounds of food, said Armata.
Community members are encouraged to donate as much as they would like, however they are only eligible to enter the drawing once per week.
Last year’s winners were Brian Dary, Jeanne Evenstad, Nick Mieloszyk, and Jerry Lauzon.
The statistics on hunger are frightening: more than 48 million Americans, including 16.2 million children, struggle with hunger, according to a news release from Great Lakes Airlines.
To donate, bring items to the Gogebic-Iron County Airport Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
