Cupcake giveaway marks Ford's 100th birthday event

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A celebration of the 100th anniversary of President Gerald Ford’s birth has been marked with a cupcake giveaway in the western Michigan city he long represented in Congress.

Organizers say 2,000 guests at the Gerald Ford museum in Grand Rapids were treated to red, white and blue cupcakes as part of Saturday’s ceremony.

The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation has scheduled a series of events marking the centennial of Ford’s birth on July 14, 1913.

Ford became president in 1974 after President Richard Nixon’s resignation and served until Jimmy Carter replaced him in 1977. Ford died Dec. 26, 2006.
