Red Devils don't lose a set at Hurley

HURLEY — Ironwood swept Hurley, playing five matches and not losing a set Tuesday.

The Red Devils surrendered just seven games to Hurley.

A close contest came at the beginning of the first set in No. 1 doubles.

Ironwood’s team of Rachel Pallin and Payton Aho duked it out in the first set against Hurley’s Mikayla Sobrack and Hannah Huotari.  Sobrack played aggressive net tennis, partnered with Houtari’s strong baseline game, earning Hurley an early 3-2 game lead.

Rattled a bit, Pallin and Aho dug in their heels, served aggressively, and surged on to take the next four games and the set. They coasted in the 2nd to a 6-0 win.

The Red Devils (3-7) travel to Phillips, Wis., today for their final regular-season match before U.P. Finals play next Wednesday at Westwood.
