Michael J. 'Mike' Laamanen

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Michael J. “Mike” Laamanen, 56, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Mike was born April 4, 1957, in Wakefield, Mich., to Margaret Marshalek and Floyd Laamanen. He grew up in Bessemer, Mich., and later moved to Green Bay in 1971. He graduated from East High in 1975, where he played ice hockey. Mike was an avid Packers fan and also a NASCAR fan. He also liked to read and make people laugh with his dry sense of humor. He loved his family.

Mike is survived by his mother, Margaret Marshalek; his father, Floyd (Mina) Laamanen, Florida; and his sisters, Laura (Randy) Thyes, Susan Laamanen (Sarah Summ), and Julie (Dr. Nollie) Swynnerton, San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as an uncle, Jim Marshalek, Bessemer.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Nina and Peter Marshalek, and Ann and Werner Laamanen.

Private services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Green Bay, with final resting at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.
