Shirley Hanako Sexton

CRYSTAL FALLS, Mich. — Shirley Hanako Sexton died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.

She was born July 1, 1931, in Maui, Hawaii, and joined the U.S. Army in the Women’s Army Corps in the early 1950s.

She married David “Super X” Sexton on April 4, 1953. They resided in Paulding and had four children, Sherril (Gregg) Anderson, of Paulding, Scott (Brenda) Sexton, of Paynesville, Doug (Marilyn) Sexton, of Paulding, and Richard (Wendy) Sexton, of Powers. She had 13 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Shirley worked at the Forest Service Nursery and baby-sat for many Paulding children. She was a homemaker. Her kitchen was the hub of Paulding with the smell of coffee, baking bread and pasties. She also enjoyed her Friday nights with her bingo friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother; grandson; and husband, David “Super X” Sexton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. EDT at the Cane Funeral Home-Bruce Crossing Chapel.

Visitation will begin at noon and continue until the time of service.

A luncheon will follow at Twilly’s.
