Library to showcase nature photography

PRESQUE ISLE, Wis. - The Presque Isle Community Library will showcase the northwoods-themed photographs of Linda Christensen during November.

Christensen's photography features scenic images from the Northwoods of Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula, specializing in landscapes, birds and wildlife. "Christensen is particularly well known for her jewel-like closeups of hummingbirds feeding and dueling in the flowers," said Kay Lorbiecki, a library spokesperson. "Her scenic landscapes are filled with vibrant colors and she's captured a varied assortment of animals and birds going about their lives."

Christensen will be on hand at the Presque Isle Community Center Saturday to share stories on her photographs. She will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

She was raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, where she took up drawing at an early age, progressed to oil painting and dabbled in watercolors, acrylic and chalks. She started 35mm photography for travel vacations. Christensen vacationed with her family on their Northwoods property every year since childhood, and after retiring, she moved "up north."

"Since moving to Presque Isle, Christensen has gotten very involved in the community and is always first to volunteer to help," Lorbiecki said. "Christensen has given generously of her time to the Presque Isle Library fundraiser Evening in the Stacks, and she's made countless Christmas balls for the annual Lioness fundraiser."

"Everywhere you look in the Northwoods is a work of art waiting to be captured to share with all who love and may not be able to go out and see what God has given us," Christensen said. "Hummingbirds have become a special passion to share these amazing tiny jewels that glimmer in the sunlight."

The exhibit will be open during regular library hours in November: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
