IRONWOOD - A tree that fell on a power line near Grand View Hospital caused some sporadic outages throughout the area on Sunday evening.
Xcel Energy workers were continuing repairs on Monday. An employee said there was quite bit of damage to the system.
An unlucky customer at Red's Auto Car Wash on Cloverland Drive was literally caught up in the middle of the outage. The customer was stuck in the middle of a car wash in a garage stall and because of "electrical issues," the door wouldn't rise, according to an Ironwood Public Safety Department report.
An employee was called to rectify the situation.
The IPSD received a 7:50 p.m. Sunday complaint that a power line and power pole were on fire on Ayer Street, near Iron King Street. Engine 99 responded and Xcel was making repairs there on Monday afternoon.
IPSD officers said they believed Xcel equipment was also affected at three other locations.
The Gogebic County Sheriff's Department received numerous Sunday night reports of trees being blown down at various locations in the county as the strong winds took a toll, including the tree that fell on the line off Oak Lane, near the hospital.
Deputies directed traffic in areas where the stoplights were out, such as at U.S. 2 and Country Club Road.
The nearby Walmart store in Ironwood Township closed early because of the outage.
The winds had died down by Monday afternoon.
