Pearl Frances Jarvi

HURLEY, Wis. - Pearl Frances Jarvi, 86, of Ironwood, Mich., died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.

The former Pearl Andrews was born March 5, 1927, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chicago, to the late Oscar and Lola (Farrell) Andrews. She attended schools in Minneapolis, graduating from high school there in 1945. While growing up, she helped her parents run their small grocery store in Minneapolis. After graduation, she moved to various areas in Arizona and California until finally settling in Superior, where she worked for several years at the co-op store there.

In 1951, she married Veikko Jarvi and they resided in Superior until moving to Ironwood in 1956. They also owned homes in Boynton Beach, Fla., where they spent winters. Veikko preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 2000.

Pearl was a member of the National Finnish-American Festival and the Finnish American Chorus. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are a son, Dale, Hawkins, Wis .; three daughters, Vicki (David) Mussatti, Bessemer, Mich., Joy (Tom) Kraynak, Ironwood, and Gail (Tom) Glatczak, Bessemer; five grandchildren, Angela (Matt) Kaurala, Michelle (Steve) Smith, Joseph Glatczak and Steve Mussatti (Shelley Binz), all of Bessemer, and Kody Dahl, Hawkins; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Dalbeck, Amber and Ben Kaurala, Samantha Peite and Kristen Smith; one great-great-grandchild, Gabriel; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many dear friends.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Charles Mussatti in infancy, and David Mussatti, Jr.

Out of respect for Pearl's wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Kurt Kovanen officiating.

A reception will follow at Tacconelli's in downtown Ironwood.

Private committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Little Finland.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
