Frederick D. 'Fritz' Layman

WOODRUFF, Wis. — Frederick D. “Fritz” Layman, 83, of Mercer, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff.

He was born April 12, 1930, in Mercer, son of the late Charles and Susan (Pemble) Layman, and graduated from Mercer High School in 1948. He was married to the former Sylvia Warzynski on July 29, 1950, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer. They then moved to Milwaukee, where Fred was employed as a crane operator at Harnischfeger Corp., retiring in 1985 and returning to Mercer in 1988.

Fred enjoyed woodworking, woodcarving and working around the house. He and Sylvia especially enjoyed spending winters in Florida.

Surviving are his wife, Sylvia, of 63 years; a daughter, Tami (Russell) Bukovic, Mercer; three grandchildren, Shelley (Jeremy) Adrian, Mukwonago, Nicole (Rafael) Castillo, Mercer, and Chrissy (Josh) Fiorini, Fruitland Park, Fla .; three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Breana and Cadence; a sister, Ardith Nass, Windom, Minn .; and numerous nieces, nephews and brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Roxanne Layman, on Oct. 6, 2013; brothers, Charles, Arvid, Robert and Nyle; and sisters, Lila Rossener, Lillian Otto, Myrtle Schildt and Leone Voight.

Per Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
