Gogebic Taconite: ' We've learned a lot talking to people'

One-on-one meetings offered by G-Tac in Iron, Ashland counties

HURLEY - Gogebic Taconite representatives met with residents in Iron and Ashland counties Wednesday, answering questions and discussing topics related to the proposed iron ore mine near Upson, Wis.

According to Bob Seitz, spokesman for G-Tac, the event was "really great."

It was the second time the company hosted one-on-one meetings, allowing citizens to speak with G-Tac, accomodating those who may be uncomfortable speaking in a public hearing format, or who were unable to attend previous meetings.

"It's been just the people we hoped would come out," Seitz said, "the people who are unsure, but are willing to give us a chance to do the studies, and find the truth directly from the source."

G-Tac stopped in two locations in each county. In Iron County, the locations were Hurley and Saxon, and in Ashland County it was Ashland and Mellen.

"It's been really interesting," Seitz said. "We've learned a lot talking to people, and when they left, they seemed to have a good handle on where the project is at."

Future one-on-one meetings are in the works.

"We will continue these," Seitz said. "Absolutely."
