Gogebic Community College begins spring semester

Officials estimate increased enrollment at Ironwood, Houghton campuses

IRONWOOD - Monday marked the first day of the spring semester for Gogebic Community College students.

Spring enrollment numbers are still fluctuating as students can add and drop courses for the first week, according to officials.

Last semester, there were 1,000 students enrolled at GCC, including students enrolled online and on-campus in Ironwood and Houghton.

"It's safe to say about 30 percent of the population is in Houghton," Dean of Student Services Jeanne Graham said.

Graham expects the final spring enrollment numbers to be higher than last year. "It's changing by the minute," she said.

GCC has a number of activities planned for students this term, including the Snowfest celebration on Jan. 22. This event will include free skiing, tubing and live music for all students.

Other activities, such as a snowshoe night, will be held every Wednesday through the spring semester.

Midterm break will be March 10-14.

Finals are scheduled for the week of May 5-9.

Commencement will be May 9 at 6:30 p.m.
