Doris E. McRae

IRONWOOD, Mich. — Doris E. McRae, 85, of 750 Van Buskirk Road, Ironwood, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, in Ironwood.

She was born Jan. 2, 1929, in Ironwood, daughter of the late William and Toini (Johnson) Nelson.

On Feb. 7, 1948, she was united in marriage with John D. McRae at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood by the Rev. Michael Hale. John preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2004.

Doris was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood.

She is survived by six sons, Dave (Cindy), Tom (Carol) and Jim “Boomer,” all of Ironwood, Kelly (Jeannie), of Howell, Brian (Jackie), of Trinity, N.C., and Dennis (Mary), of Ironwood; and three daughters, Sue (Jerry) Anderson and Carol (Dennis) Novascone, both of Ironwood, and Peggy (Steve) Bryant, of Palmer, Alaska. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, Chris (Lisa) McRae, of Merrill, Wis., Andy (Nicole) McRae, of Ironwood, Scott (Kristy), of Birnamwood, Wis., Patrick (Niki) McRae, of Ironwood, Dan (Deven), of Ironwood, Lauren (Mike) Tulppo, of Ironwood, Carla (Eric) Heiden, of Wausau, Wis., Jaime Anderson, of Green Bay, Wis., Kim Anderson, of Ironwood, Kyle (Kristin) Anderson, of Cloquet, Minn., Chad (Jill) Novascone, of Ironwood, Kara (Joe) Fratto, of Fort Wayne, Ind., Jason McRae, of Howell, Nikki (Nik) Cox, of Wasilla, Alaska, Zak Bryant, of Palmer, Shane McRae, U.S. Air Force, Wichita, Kan., Ryan and Corey McRae, of Kernersville, N.C., Eric McRae, of Madison, Wis., and Matthew McRae, of Ironwood; 23 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Carolyn (Richard) Dembowski, of Titusville, Fla.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by one sister, Florence Hill.

Doris loved to garden. She was known for her beautiful handiwork knitting, crocheting and sewing. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place at the Range Crematory in Hurley, Wis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. The Rev. Robb Jurkovich will be the celebrant.

The family will receive friends in the St. Joseph Family Room from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Spring inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Erwin Township Area Community Club.

Arrangements are by Range Funeral Service and Crematory, Ketola-Burla Funeral Home of Ironwood.
