Weekly group offers play time for kids

MERCER, Wis. - Area children are able to gather, play and socialize each Monday during the Mercer Area Play Group, held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Mercer Public Library and Community Center.

The group is a casual get-together to allow children to play and their caregivers to socialize.

Each week, different activities are planned and stories and a snack are offered. Activities are geared for children up to 5 years old, but older kids and home school students are also welcome.

Twice a month, Andrea Newby, family living educator from Iron County University of Wisconsin-Extension, attends to teach preschool and kindergarten readiness activities.

The group originated when Mercer parent Martha Kiedrowski saw a need for parents, grandparents, baby sitters and other caregivers to bring young people together. It began meeting in February 2013.

The play group meets year-round and all are welcome.
