Third annual Women's Heart Healthy Brunch coming to Mercer in February

MERCER, Wis. - Area residents are invited to the third annual Women's Heart Healthy Brunch Feb. 8 in Mercer.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mercer Community Center. According to event volunteer Gerri Reynolds, attendees are asked to wear red to support Heart Awareness month in February.

"It's a nice occasion to dress up, and it's free to attend," Reynolds said. "It does get more and more popular each year."

The event is sponsored by the Mercer Health and Wellness Program, Iron County University of Wisconsin-Extension Family Living/Nutrition Educations programs, Ministry Health and the Iron County Health Department. Presentations will also be made by Iron County health officer Zona Wick and Richard A. Reinhart, a cardiologist.

Attendees will also be able to try heart-healthy foods, including soups, sub sandwiches and salads.

"We are making three-bean, sausage soup and chicken noodle soup," Reynolds said.

Volunteers will make the soup and set up for the event the night before the brunch. According to Reynolds, volunteers are always welcome.

Pre-registration is required for the event, limited to 75 participants. Registration must be completed by Feb. 1.

For more information, or to register for the Women's Heart Healthy Brunch, call Reynolds at 715-476-3720.
