Willard A. 'Mr. Willard' Maki

DULUTH, Minn. - Willard A. "Mr. Willard" Maki, 82, of 725 E. Margaret St., Ironwood, Mich., died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, as St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, with his niece, Vicky, at his side.

He was born April 18, 1931, in Mass City, Mich., son of the late Arthur and Taimi (Kovanen) Maki.

On June 26, 1953, he was united in marriage with Alice V. Sanders at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Msgr. Joseph Seifert. Along with his wife, Alice, he owned and operated Mr. Willard's Electric on Lake Street in Ironwood for more than 25 years. She preceded him in death on Oct. 29, 2008.

Willard was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood.

He is survived by five nephews, Steve (Vicky) Stefaniak, of Bessemer, Mich., Ted (Edith) Stefaniak, of Grafton, Wis., Larry (Cheryl) Stefaniak, of Crosby, Texas, George Sanders, of St. Paul, Minn., and Vic Ollikainen, of Illinois; one niece, Kathryn (Tom) Osier, of Marquette, Mich .; numerous other relatives and friends; and a special nurse, Kathy.

Cremation has taken place at the Range Crematory in Hurley, Wis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael Hayden will be the celebrant.

Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Luncheon will follow at Tacconelli's in downtown Ironwood.

Spring inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the HOPE Animal Shelter.

Arrangements are by Range Funeral Service and Crematory, Ketola-Burla Funeral Home of Ironwood.
