New group aims to support recovering meth users

To the Editor:

There is an increase of methamphetamine use and manufacturing in our area. Generally society handles these types of behaviors with a legal response by incarceration or mandatory inpatient treatment.

The significance of these factors is that the individuals are given the opportunity to clean up from the highly addictive drug, meth.

A local group is being formed to help those who decide they no longer want to be using this drug and want their life back. If the individual desires to get off the drug or they are currently using and feel powerless to stop, M.A.ETC may be just the place for them to find help.

There is a motivated group of recovering users who have formed to provide help and support toward the goal of sobriety. The first meeting of this group will be Monday, May 5, at 8 p.m. at the Woodland Church in Ironwood. The group will meet weekly on Monday evenings from that point forward.

With the assistance of Woodland Church and Superior Counseling, the group will follow a similar format to Meth Anonymous groups, but will also draw upon a blend of approaches like SmartRecovery.org, drugfreeworld.org, samhsa.gov and other influential, proven programs.

The meeting is open to users of any drug, but will emphasize overcoming meth. They encourage individuals interested in supporting or assisting people get free of this living hell to attend.

The wreckage meth does to a community is epidemic. The individuals in this group firmly believe that you can recover from this addiction and live a productive, clean life.

Through programs like this, the financial and physical support of these programs from concerned individuals and organizations in the community, they can turn the tide on the usage of this devastatingly addictive drug.

If you know someone who is struggling with drugs and wants to change his life, there is hope.
