Edwin 'Fast Eddie' Laurin

EAGLE RIVER, Wis. - Edwin "Fast Eddie" Laurin, 76, of Ramsay, Mich., died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 30, 2014, in Eagle River.

He was born June 30, 1937, in Nadeau, Mich., son of the late William and Helen Laurin. Ed attended Carney-Nadeau schools and graduated from the Carney-Nadeau High School with the class of 1955. He was employed by Bacco Construction and at the White Pine Mine. Ed was employed by United Parcel Service for 32 years until retirement.

He was a member and fire chief for the Bessemer Township (Mich.) Fire Department. He belonged to the local horseshoe leagues and loved hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed fishing on Lake Gogebic and in Menominee, Mich. Ed was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

From Dec. 7, 1960, until Dec. 6, 1962, he served in the U.S. Army as an E-5.

On Oct. 4, 1958, Ed was married to the former Frances Galamba in Nadeau at the St. Bruno's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Geno Fererro. Frances survives.

Also surviving are four children, Julie (Joseph) Pairolero, of Presque Isle, Kathy Longhini, of Bessemer, Mich., Steve (Missy) Laurin, of Hurley, and Michael (Toni) Laurin, of Ramsay; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Dylan and Joshua Laurin, Anna, Ally and Anthony Pairolero, Tessa Laurin and Samantha and Dalton Longhini; and two great-grandchildren, Everett and Garett Laurin.

Also surviving are two brothers, Brian (Debra) Laurin and Michael (Roxanne) Laurin, both of Daggett, Mich .; and five sisters, Sharon Tousignant, of Carney, Mich., Yvonne (Don) Cichantek, of Manitowoc, Rose (Willy) Borden, of Menominee, Bev (Jim) Corey, of Wallace, Mich., and Diane (Dick) Puddy, of Sheboygan. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives survive.

Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Thoune; a brother, Stephen Laurin; and a granddaughter, Ashley Laurin.

Funeral services will be held at the Frick-Zielinski Funeral Home, 304 S. Sophie St., Bessemer, on Monday, May 5, at noon. Msgr. Rev. James Kaczmarek will officiate.

Ed's family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Military rites will be accorded by the Bessemer American Legion Post 27 and VFW Post 3673 combined Honor Guard. The Bessemer Township Fire Department Honor Guard will also be present.
