Many support Ironwood Memorial Day activities

To the Editor:

On behalf of our membership, American Legion Post 5 would like to thank everyone in the city of Ironwood for their participation in our recent Memorial Day ceremonies.

We are encouraged by the number of individuals that still manage to come out and support our soldiers during that national day of recognition. We realize that many think of Memorial Day as just another holiday and forget the importance of the real meaning of the day. It is really nice to see citizens supporting us at our Memorial Day program at the Memorial Building and during the parade route to the post office and then cemetery.

We offer our thanks to the Ironwood JROTC students for their sacrifice and support to our post throughout the year, along with the Luther L. Wright High School band. We are extremely proud of the positive roles that these young adults demonstrate by their unselfish contributions as well.

We thank the members of the local choir that come together each year, as well and the young children that participate in making our program special and our Legion Auxiliary members as well.

More than 120 Legion members died this past year and the number of flags placed at the Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood continues to grow into the thousands. It’s never too late to thank a veteran for their service to our country and its freedom.

Rick A. Minkin, commander

Ironwood American Legion Post 5
