IRONWOOD - An apparent murder-suicide in the city of Ironwood's Jessieville Location was under investigation Monday.
An elderly man and woman were found dead in the back yard at a Burt Street residence around 7:30 a.m. Monday, with a shotgun found at the scene, according to a Gogebic County Sheriff's Department report.
Officers found the couple upon arriving.
The woman was seen with blood on her chest, lying about 20 feet away from the man, according to the GCSD report. An older model shotgun was propped up against an old wooden desk at the scene.
Ironwood Public Safety Department Director Andrew DiGiorgio issued a Monday afternoon press release saying the names were being withheld and the matter remained under investigation.
DiGiorgio said the Michigan State Police crime lab and Gogebic County Prosecutor's office were assisting in the investigation.
Hurley police also assisted in responding.
