Final pieces of Airport Recreational Park project falling into place

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - Throughout the week, playground equipment will be erected at the Airport Recreational Park in Ironwood Township.

On Tuesday, volunteers and Ironwood Township employees worked with contractors from Miller and Associates, the company which sold the equipment to the township.

The equipment installation is one of the final pieces needed to complete the park project, which began around two years ago. Other park features include a new pavilion with restrooms and a walking track.

According to Alan Baron, township supervisor, the installation was delayed because of rain on Monday.

The playground installation was also delayed last fall because of snow and freezing conditions, pushing the project to this week.

Once the equipment is installed, sand will be laid around the playground for safety measures.

"Sand is what was recommended to us," Baron said. "We have many pieces of the equipment already put together, and it just needs to be dropped in the holes. We should be pouring concrete (today) and be done by the end of the week."
