Artists to demonstrate, exhibit in Presque Isle

PRESQUE ISLE, Wis. - The Presque Isle Chamber of Commerce will host artists' demonstrations Wednesday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Presque Isle Library and Community Center.

The event includes art demonstrations, classes and refreshments.

"This is an opportunity to try a few things on your bucket list like throwing a pot on a potter's wheel, weaving on a loom, turning wood on a lathe, spinning wool, bead making and others," said Kay Lorbiecki, an event spokesperson. "It's not often you can talk with the artists as they work."

In addition to the free demonstrations in the community building, attendees can bring watercolors and paper to pain with master watercolorist Mindy Schnell in the building's flower gardens. "In case of rain or hordes of mosquitoes, Schnell will move her watercolor class inside," Lorbiecki said.

Lucia Pairolero will also offer a vinyl resist method gourd bowl class starting at 10 a.m. Registration fees include a cleaned and prepared gourd and all supplies. Interested attendees should register by emailing Pairolero at [email protected].

Eighteen artists in a variety of media will participate and exhibit work at the library. Artists include: Sheri Smith, Winchester, fiber art; Nancy Williams, Winchester, jewelry; Ed Brodsky, Presque Isle, photography; Schnell, Boulder Junction, master watercolorist; Jackie Bassett, Presque Isle, wool spinning and weaving; Cathy Breitholtz, Presque Isle, basketry; Steve Helgeson, Three Lakes, pottery; Linda Christensen, Marenisco, Mich., photography; Connie Warshall, Harshaw, fiber art; Ron Warshall, Harshaw, woodturning; Ramona Widick, Land O Lakes, woodcarving; Elinore Sommerfeld, Boulder Junction, mixed media painting and photography; Lorbiecki, Presque Isle, mixed media; Val Bogdon, Manitowish Waters, carving and dichroic jewelry; Vlasta Polacek, Manitowish Waters, mixed media; Pairolero, Marenisco, wood carving and gourd art; and Christine Alfery, Lac du Flambeau, aqueous mixed media.
