Wakefield Variety Show attracts large crowd

WAKEFIELD - The Wakefield Historical Society hosted its Hometown Variety Show that drew a crowd of around 100 people to the Wakefield-Marenisco High School music room-auditorium on Wednesday.

Denise Haas, a member of the historical society, was master of ceremonies for the event. She also performed a solo song, as well as part of an a cappella group called the Tamster Trio.

"This is a benefit for the museum," Haas said of the variety show. "All the proceeds and all the donations go to the Wakefield Museum."

The show had 12 separate acts including a flag folding presentation by Don Luoma, Greg Yon, Dennis Bertetto and Jack Lillar, members of the Wakefield VFW and American Legion Post Honor Guard.

There were also a number of musical performances, a dubstep dance and an appearance by the Ironwood Dance Company.

"It's an honor for us to have them here," Haas said of the performers.

Matt Agee, a Wakefield resident, also performed a comedy act.

He talked about how he always liked Halloween as a kid and he and his wife will sometimes separate their seven children to bring them trick-or-treating.

"Now pay attention because this is the difference between men and women," he said. "My older son was Darth Vader, and we went into this big crowded room and I turned my head for a minute and when I looked back there was five Darth Vaders. It's time to go, I just grabbed a Darth Vader. The next morning I heard a blood curdling scream, 'Whose child is this?!' I don't know. I went in with a Darth Vader, I came out with a Darth Vader."
