Rose M. Hill

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Rose M. Hill, 77, a former resident of Arbor Green Senior Living Community and White Pine, passed away Monday evening July 7, 2014, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where she had been a resident patient for the past two years.

She was born on Nov. 29, 1936, in Detroit, a daughter of the late Willard and Lillian (Bakkila) Koskela. Rose was raised in Atlantic Mine and attended the local schools.

On April 19, 1953, she was united in marriage to Harlan Hill. The couple had resided in Detroit, Portage Entry and White Pine, where they raised four children. Harlan preceded Rose in death in November 2007.

Rose worked as a nurse for various doctors, the Ontonagon Long Term Care Unit, and as a private duty nurse.

Rose was a member of Faith Lutheran Church while she resided in White Pine and currently was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. She enjoyed reading, working in her flower garden and crocheting blankets for each for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents and her sister, Linda Onkala.

Surviving are: her children, Cynthia (Carel) Lane, of Las Cruse, N.M., Diana (Anthony) Meneguzzo, of White Pine, Debra (Steven) Manninen, of Eveleth, Minn., and Michael Hill, of Oshkosh, Wis .; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty (Fred) King, of Exeter, N.H .; her brother, Jack (Susan) Koskela, of Atlantic Mine; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Rose will be held 1:30 pm, Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. DJ Rasner to officiate.

Friends may call on Friday, July 11, from 1 p.m. until time of services at the church.
