Zombies invade Ironwood as Strand demonstrates demons

IRONWOOD - The Ironwood Carnegie Library hosted a day of zombie-related events, including zombie make-up face-painting, on Tuesday afternoon.

Ironwood resident Tyler Strand used liquid latex, powders and other make-up to provide willing participants with an opportunity to look like zombies.

Strand has been interested in zombies and other things of the horror genre since he was a kid.

"My birthday is Oct. 26, so it's close to Halloween and I guess it just kind of became my thing," he said.

He's been messing around with make-up for years and wants to attend Tom Savini's Special Make-Up Effects program at Douglas Education Center in Pennsylvania.

Savini has worked on make-up and special effects for a number of big-hit movies such as Friday the 13th and Dawn of the Dead.

Strand said the school is "more horror-oriented, which is what Tom Savini is known for."

Strand said creating a zombie appearance depends on how much effort you put into it, but he has been able to hone his technique and can typically achieve one in an hour.
