Florence Mukka

L’ANSE, Mich. — Florence Mukka, 106, of Bruce Crossing passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at Bayside Village Nursing Home in L’Anse.

She was born Dec. 24, 1907, in Minnesota to the late George and Clara Skeesick.

On Nov. 5, 1959, Florence was united in marriage to Albert Mukka.

Florence worked as a cook at a resort near Boulder Junction, Wis., and later in life, enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking for her family.

Florence is survived by her sister, Alice Stelzmiller, Gresham, Ore .; two nephews, Ken (Kay) and Steve (Nancy) Virt, both of Green Bay, Wis .; step-grandchildren, Marie (Ted) Lovdahl, Effie, Minn., Bill (Barb) Phillips, Circle Pines, Minn., Dick (Sharon) Phillips, Princeton, Minn., and Nancy Phillips of Anchorage, Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; nine brothers; four sisters; special foster son, Leonard; brother-in-law, Reino Mukka; and sisters-in-law, Laura Mukka and Aune (George) Virt.

A remembrance gathering for Florence will be held at the Cane Funeral Home, Bruce Crossing Chapel on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, from 10-11 a.m. Inurnment in the Hillside Cemetery will follow.

Florence’s family wishes to thank the staff at Bayside Village for the great care they gave to Florence.
