Howard 'Jim' J. Madson

IRON RIVER, Mich. - Howard "Jim" J. Madson, 87, of Watersmeet, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Northstar Health System in Iron River.

He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Merrill, Wis., the son of the late Carl and Catherine (Hansen) Madson. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Jim married the former Sylvia Scheu on April 12, 1947, in Merrill. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 2002. Sylvia preceded him in death on April 5, 2003.

He was employed as a welder at the White Pine Mine and Nagel's Lumber Company.

Jim was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church of Land O' Lakes, Wis., and the American Legion. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and four-wheeling.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Bunny (John) Sjogren, Gladstone, Linda (Kim) Clouse, Rapid River, and Kay (Sieg) Lenk, Wausau, Wis .; sisters, Ellen Peters, Missouri, Rosalie Williams, Aurora, Ill., and Joyce Lagerbloom, Wausau; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Nancee Sullivan; brother, Darwin Madson; and sister, Ann Michaels.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, from 9-10:45 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Land O' Lakes. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Albert to officiate.

Interment will be in Watersmeet Township Cemetery. Veterans will accord military rites at the service.
