Ironwood beats South Shore

IRONWOOD — Ironwood’s volleyball team avenged an early season loss to South Shore with a 3-1 win over the visiting Cardinals Tuesday evening.

The Red Devils won 25-16, 19-25, 25-23, 15-21.

Emily DiGiorgio led the Red Devil attack with 24 kills. Mariah Beaudette added 19 kills.

Ironwood’s Katie Erickson had 38 assists.

“Overall, we really didn’t serve that well,” said Ironwood coach Lisa Graham. “But it was a team we had lost to; it was nice to get a win.”

Graham said the Red Devils played well in the first game, but struggled, as usual, in the second game, missing nine serves.

“We picked up our play in game 3, passing, serving and attacking much better,” Graham said.

Graham said South Shore’s tall Megan Gustafson played well with many strikes at the net.

“It was fun to watch her and Emily go at it,” Graham said.

Ironwood hosts Wakefield-Marenisco Thursday.
