Jack L. Bjork

WAUSAU, Wis. - Jack L. Bjork, 85, passed away Oct. 12, 2014, at North Central Health Care in Wausau

He was born in Crystal Falls, Mich., on Jan. 17, 1929, to Dewey and Hildur (Larson) Bjork.

At age three, his family moved to Ramsay, Mich., where he spent his youth. He attended Ramsay grade school and graduated from A.D. Johnson High School in Bessemer, Mich.

On June 21, 1952, he married Patricia Shea.

In 1952, Jack graduated from Michigan Technological University in Houghton with a degree in mining engineering.

Jack worked as a mining engineer the Montreal, Wis., mine until 1963, and then worked as a civil engineer for the U.S. Forest Service out of Bessemer until 1969. He then worked as a mining engineer for the White Pine Copper Company until he retired in 1991.

In the 1970s he designed, constructed and operated a campground near Watersmeet, Mich., while farming and selling Christmas trees. He was also a Cub Scout leader. He volunteered as a surveyor for the St. Mary's Church, the city of Hurley and later in life he volunteered at the Marywood Convalescence Center in Wausau, from 2004 to 2010.

Jack is survived by a brother, Arbid (Joyce), Baxter, Minn .; a sister, Peggy McCray, Elyia, Ohio; sister-in-law Marion Shea, Durand; two sons, Jim (Rita), Wausau, and Dan, Weston: two daughters, Mary Sue (Lanny) Tibaldo, DePere, and Ann (Ron) Gosse, Marathon; grandchildren Kevin (Laura) Bjork, Sun Prairie, Michael (Claire) Bjork, Madison, Tony Tibaldo, DePere, Vince (Hannah)) Tibaldo, DePere, Laura (Randy) Karlen), DePere, Sarah Bjork, Weston, Alex Gosse, Marathon; great-grandchildren, Dominic and Anthony Bjork, Lila Karlen, Penny and Ellie Tibaldo and Vinny Tibaldo; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to North Central Healthcare–Lakeview Heights and Aspirus Hospice for their loving care of Jack.

Services will be held at St. Anne Parish, with Rev. Matthew Marshall officiating, in Wausau on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, with visitation at 9 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.
