Ghoul run/walk festivities success with warm October weather

IRONWOOD - Warmer weather greeted participants on Saturday night for the second annual Only Ghouls Run at Midnight Walk/Run.

Clear skies and mild temperatures proved to be a pleasant change from last year's rain and cold. With about 80 walker and runners attending the event, the night's festivities couldn't have been happier.

The 5K run/walk started at midnight, but leading up to the run there was a party with Halloween activities at the Ironwood Memorial Building. Events included a costume contest, cakewalk, photo booth, games, music and other fundraising activities.

All proceeds from the event are for the cross-country teams of Gogebic Community College, Ironwood and Hurley high schools, as well as the Ironwood and Hurley Boy Scouts Troop 323. It is still undecided what the groups will use the money for this year, but some of the money last year went towards merit badges for the scouts and a scholarship from GCC.

Team and scout members also volunteered at the event.

The course took racers through Ironwood, alongside the Riverside Cemetery and then back to the Memorial Building. The race was a timed event by Tortoise and Hare Race Management and results from Saturday's race can be found on tandhtiming.com.

Despite the closing of this year's race, organizers have already planned next year's event on Saturday Oct. 31.
