Women's races, expo offers weekend getaway

ASHLAND, Wis. - "Girls just wanna have fun" and the third annual Chick-uamegon, a lighthearted women's 5K/10K walk/run and 20-mile bike race, is scheduled for Nov. 8.

New this year is the added challenge of a 20-mile bike race through the surrounding countryside, which will start at 9:30 a.m. The 5K and 10K run/walk steps off at 11 a.m. at Ashland's Lake Superior Elementary School. All races will be held rain, shine or even snow.

Chick-uamegon participants are advised to come dressed to win in their most "bling" attire. Finishers each receive a tiara and medal, plus there will be prizes for the top three participants wearing the most outlandish "bling" outfits imaginable.

It's all about the ladies as the playful Chick-uamegon features all-guy water stations and crossing guards with costumed attendants.

And after the races the annual Garland City Women's Expo, held inside Lake Superior Elementary School starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m.
