ONTONAGON, Mich. — Helen Hoefferle, beloved mother of seven, wife of George Hoefferle (deceased), sister to eight, and daughter of Frank Sr. and Mary Domitrovich (deceased) died at her home in Ontonagon early Sunday morning on Nov. 2, 2014, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Ontonagon and lived most of her life there.

She graduated from Ontonagon High School with the class of 1954 and was an active organizer of her class reunions over the years. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Hancock and worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in California and for Dr. Lahti in Ontonagon for several years.

She married George Hoefferle in 1961. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother first and foremost in her life. After raising her seven children, she was a lead organizer and volunteer for many local charities, including Holy Family Catholic Church Alter Guild and Parish Council, Pregnancy Services, the St. Nicholas Project, the Food Pantry and especially the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Through her dedicated volunteer work, she touched the lives of many Ontonagon residents.

She is survived by her seven children, their spouses and five grandchildren, Mary and Michael Hoefferle, Franz and Liz Hoefferle, Caroline and Mike Hoefferle-Korzelius, Ann and Greg Dassow, Gretchen, Andy, Grace and Anthony Dunnam, Ed, Annette and Janie Hoefferle, and Erich, Chris, Mathias and Hannah Hoefferle. She is also survived by five of her brothers and one sister and their spouses; Frank and Mary Domitrovich, Carl and Janet Domitrovich, Dorothy and Tom Condon, Stanley and Nancy Domitrovich, Tony and Barbara Domitrovich, George and Judy Domitrovich and Karen Domitrovich.

She was preceded in death by her younger brother, Martin Domitrovich, and her younger sister, Mary Lou Domitrovich.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. and Rosary is at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers and in keeping with her life of volunteer service, the family would like friends and family to volunteer with their favorite charity or donate to St. Vincent De Paul, the St. Nicholas Project or the Ontonagon Cancer Society.
