Ironwood's four-day total tops 37 inches

IRONWOOD - The Ironwood snow total since Monday climbed to 37.7 inches on Friday.

The 7 a.m. Friday 24-hour reading was 7.2 inches at the Gogebic-Iron Wastewater Treatment Plant off Cloverland Drive.

That followed three consecutive 24-hour periods of 10-inch snowfalls in Ironwood, as a total of 30.5 inches had been recorded since Monday and for a change, there was no snow after Friday morning.

The on-the-ground snow total at Ironwood stood at 26 inches, but some areas of the Gogebic Range had around three feet.

Gile, Wis., was the top snow producer on the Gogebic Range for the week with an unofficial total of 50 inches, garnering region-wide attention for the residents of the suburb of Montreal.

Motorists are advised that because there's so much snow, streets have narrowed, such as Hurley's famed Silver Street, where the snowbanks are four to six feet high.

Visibility has also been reduced at intersections, so drivers should be extra careful in their approaches.
