Surprise Santa visit excites kids at Hurley craft fair

HURLEY-There was a lot of family fun at the Hurley Booster Club craft fair Saturday at the Hurley K-12 School.

On top of all the vendors and craft tables there was also some great entertainment by the Hurley School's Silver Express, balloon animals and face painting by Fun E Business and a special appearance by the big man himself, Santa Claus.

The Hurley Booster club hosts the craft fair around this time every year to help raise money to support all the Hurley student athletes throughout the year.

This year they also had the students and parents of the Last Blast 2015 fundraiser working a table. The Last Blast booth was selling homemade baked goods and crafts to raise money for the end of school year senior party.

A few of the highlights from the day were definitely the kid-friendly activities going on. Fun E Business clowns were there making balloon animals like snowmen and reindeer and face painting for all the kids was also offered.

Hurley's Silver Express performed for a rather packed auditorium of craft fair goers. They entertained the group with a few rock and roll classics as well as a few Christmas favorites.

The main attraction for the kids was definitely Santa Claus.

A long line of families with kids waited for their chance to sit on Santa's lap. Each kid also got a small gift bag from Santa after sitting on his lap.

This year the craft fair saw many new vendors according to Bill Ceccon, a member of the Booster Club. There was a total of 45 vendors set up in the commons room and small gym.

Ceccon said the fair saw a steady stream of people starting a little before 10 a.m. which continued into the afternoon. He said it was hard to say just how many people came but the parking lot was packed most of the day.

Among the crafts and goods at the fair there were Christmas decorations and gifts, jewelry, winter gear, jams, baked goods, wreaths, Hurley apparel and more.

Hurley's Northwoods Manufacturing students had a table set up with items the students had made.

The Hurley PTO was also selling 'spirit lights' for the 1st annual Spirit Tree, which will be displayed in front of the school and lit for the holiday season.

The purchase on an each orange light is in celebration of a person or accomplishment and a white light is in memory of a person or special occasion.

A 50/50 raffle and raffle for prizes was also set up as well as lunch for sale. There was the choice of a hot beef sandwiches, pasta salad, muffins, rolls, pie slices, cookies and beverages.

All the of the Booster Club's hard work definitely paid off as the Hurley craft fair was a huge success.
