Bessemer students enjoy gingerbread

BESSEMER - First graders at Washington Elementary in Bessemer, along with some teachers, parents and grandparents built gingerbread houses on Monday afternoon.

Chattering echoed in the cafeteria as those in attendance built and decorated cardboard structures and graham cracker houses.

Frosting, pretzels, marshmallow gingerbread men, gumdrops, cereal and much more were used for decorations and snacks.

First grader Whitney Rose, whose milk carton was mostly covered in purple frosting, said purple was her favorite color.

"And pink," Rose added.

Teacher Jonelle France was happy many parents and grandparents could take part in the holiday fun.
