City council changes meeting time again

BESSEMER - The city council held its first meeting of 2015 Monday night and most of the discussion focused on changing the meeting time again.

"I don't think it's been enough time to evaluate it," said council member Linda Nelson of the past change to 5:30 p.m. She said it had only been about four meetings since the time was changed.

Council member Doug Olsen said for as long as he's been on the council, there is always a pattern when the meeting time changes.

He said a lot of people show up to the first meetings after the time changes, and then it continues to go down to those who show up on a regular basis.

"It didn't work before when we tried it," said council member Marlene Zaleski.

The council voted to change the time back to 5 p.m., with opposition from Nelson.

GOCAA request

There was also correspondence from the Gogebic-Ontonagon Community Action Agency regarding continued support from the city. City Manager Mike Usciewicz said the issue will be further discussed at a budget meeting.

There were also two amendments added to the Bluff Valley Park agreement - to restore the old playground equipment and use the new equipment in another location and to use engineered wood.

The council also moved its next meeting to Tuesday, Jan. 20, to avoid Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 19.
