Stella Light

WICHITA, Kan. — Stella Light, 85, of Bruce Crossing, Mich., passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, in Wichita, Kansas.

She was born February 12, 1929, in Paynesville to George and Mary (Nayback) Nurkkala. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Co-op Creamery. She married Donald Light on Sept. 15, 1962, in Bruce Crossing, where they made their home.

Stella was a member of the Ewen United Methodist Church and enjoyed skiing, hiking, baking and knitting.

Stella is survived by her daughter, Gwen (Jeffrey) Young, of Wichita; grandchildren, Ken, Brendan, Kayla, Morgan and Shannon; brother, Stanley Nurkkala, of Bruce Crossing; sister, Bertha Niemi, of Trout Creek, Mich .; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents; and 11 siblings.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Ewen Methodist Church. Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at 11 a.m., also at the Ewen Methodist Church. Spring Burial will take place in the Paynesville Cemetery. The Cane Funeral Home-Bruce Crossing Chapel is assisting the family.
