Midgets continue winning ways

HURLEY - The Hurley Midgets picked up their fourth win in their last five games, 67-54 over Mellen Thursday.

The Granite Diggers led 48-47 going into the fourth quarter where the Midgets outscored them 20-6.

"Ugly, but we came out on the good side," Hurley coach Mike Swartz said. "Right now, we're not picky. We'll take wins anyway we can get them."

And the Midgets played well in the fourth quarter, making good decisions and making 7 of 10 free throws.

"We definitely have a lot of work to do. We've got to be hungrier, put in a little more energy," Swartz said. "I like how the kids responded in the fourth quarter. Down by one, they buckled down, played good defense, held them to six points. We played more aggressive and looked to attack. That propelled us to a win."

James Sukanen led Hurley with 21 points and Mitchell Maki scored 13.

Davin Stricker paced Mellen with 21 pionts. Dakota Zakovec scored 16 and Ahpahnae Thomas totaled 10.
