Bonita A. 'Bonnie' Nemacheck

HURLEY, Wis. - Bonita A. "Bonnie" Nemacheck, 98, a former longtime Montreal resident, died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at Sky View Nursing Center in Hurley, surrounded by her loving family.

The former Bonita Durham was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Ironwood, Mich., daughter of the late Alvin and Clara (Hoffman) Durham, and graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1934. She then worked as a bookkeeper in downtown Ironwood.

She was married to William F. "Bill" Nemacheck on May 30, 1940, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the late Msgr. J.B. Moriarity. Bill and Bonnie moved to the Detroit area, where they raised their family, and Bonnie continued to work as a bookkeeper. Moving to Montreal in 1969, she was employed as bookkeeper at Indianhead Mountain Resort for 22 years, retiring at the age of 75 in 1991. Bill preceded her in death on March 29, 1984.

Bonnie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal, where she served as president of the Sacred Heart Altar Society for many years. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Grand View Hospital and also kept the books for the hospital auxiliary and gift shop. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and traveling.

Surviving are two sons, Patrick (Jean), Manchester, Mich., and Tom (Nancy), Iron Mountain, Mich .; two daughters, Sue Hamlin, Hurley, and Judy Haeger, Montreal; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bonnie was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Cindy Nemacheck; two sons-in-law, Roy Haeger and Roy Hamlin; and two sisters, Leoma Mercier and Inez Henning.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.

Luncheon will follow at Tacconelli's in downtown Ironwood.

Rite of Committal and interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley, in the spring.

Pallbearers will be Roy, Todd and Mark Haeger and Bob and Jeffrey Genisot.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Church, 404 Iron St., Hurley, WI 54534.
