Robert A. 'Bob' Mezzano

MELLEN, Wis. - Robert A. "Bob" Mezzano, 90, of Hurley and formerly of Pence, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, in Mellen.

He was born June 14, 1924, in Montreal, son of the late Anton and Marjorie (James) Mezzano.

Robert attended local schools and was a longtime resident of Pence.

From March 10, 1943, until Feb. 18, 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Yuma. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific, American Theatre, Philippine Liberation and Victory Medals.

He was employed at the Montreal Mine for 17 years and also at the White Pine Copper Mine for 20 years, until retirement in 1982.

Bob enjoyed fishing and especially trapping. His nickname was "Cold Track."

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 58, VFW Post 1580 and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

On Aug. 25, 1948, he was married to the former Kathleen Wiener in Mellen. She preceded him in death on May 24, 1999.

He is survived by a daughter, Roberta "Bobbie" (Mike) Norman, of Pence; grandchildren, Brian (Lisa) Thomas, of Tampa, Fla., Robert Norman, of Pence, and Doralyn (Dennis Olson) Thomas, of Hurley; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Samantha, Sybella, Anton, Elizabeth, Abigail and Austin; a brother, Raymond (Evelyn) Mezzano, of Montreal; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Besides his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Mezzano.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley at 11 a.m. Rev. Frank Kordek OFM will be the celebrant.

Robert's family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Saturday. Military rites will be accorded by the Hurley American Legion Post 58 and the VFW Post 1580 combined Honor Guard. A luncheon will follow the mass in the church hall.

Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Range Funeral Service and Crematory and the Ketola-Burla Funeral Home of Ironwood and Hurley is assisting the family.
