YooperBeiner set for Saturday

Wolverine Ski Trail will be taken over by snowshoers Saturday for the annual YooperBeiner Race/Tour.

The day will feature 5k and 10k races beginning at 11 a.m., followed by a kid's race, as well noncompetitive 5k and 2.5k tours.

The races, sponsored by Aspirus Grand View, are a United States Snowshoe Association-sanctioned event and part of the Braveheart Snowshoe Race Series.

"Last year, we had 87 people participate in the event, and 66 participants were locals," Susan Spaete, the race director, told the Daily Globe earlier this month. "That support is greatly appreciated."

Snowshoers of all ages are encouraged to participate, with the children's race open to those ages 12 and younger.
