Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties

Daniel G. Colasacco

Daniel Gene Colasacco reached his heavenly victory on March 6, 2015, at the age of 71, after fighting a valiant earthly battle against cancer. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 52 years, Joanne, who spent the last month tenderly caring for him at his bedside. His daughter, Danielle Cast, knows she was always loved and adored. His son-in-law, Kevin, considers him a father.  He was the greatest “Bapa” to his grandchildren Logan (Jenna) and Spencer Cast and all their friends.

He is further survived by his mother, Bette, and brothers Gary, Guy (Carol) and Dempsey (Gina). Dan considered Joanne’s siblings Polly (Chuck) Galian and Gene (Linda) Korpi like his own.  Special thanks to Guy for his driving, his companionship, his care and love during Dan’s treatments. Countless nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends will forever miss him. His father, Eugene “Dempsey” Colasacco, and Joanne’s parents, Gene and Evie Korpi, greeted him at Jesus’ feet.

Dan graduated from Northern Michigan University and worked as a director in advertising and exhibits at AO Smith for over 30 years. Dan was a man of great faith who was an exceptional chef and often posted photos of his creations. He took great joy in being a part of his grandkids’ lives. In December, he was thrilled to attend Logan and Jenna’s wedding in Florida.

He was blessed to serve as an Elder and Spiritual Growth chairman at Star of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing (a holder of six holes-in-one), fishing, and Bible study with special friends, Lee and Karen and Tom and Carole. Dan was a creative man who made beautiful paintings and etchings. This Yooper recently admitted he likes the Packers.

Our family would like to thank Doctors Denson, Sharpe, Kieu, Grahl, Preville, Thiel and Gully at Froedtert and the ICU staff, especially Dr. Ansari and nurses John and Mary, also Doctors Kindler, Salgia and Malec at the University of Chicago and Zilber Hospice for Dan’s physical care. Special gratitude to Pastor John Gawrisch for his friendship and spiritual care.

Memorials to Star of Bethlehem will be used for the things Dan loved: Bible Study, music and art.
