Albert Zanetti

MERRIWEATHER, Mich. — Albert Zanetti, 93, of Merriweather, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Marquette General Hospital with his family by his side.

Albert was born June 15, 1921, in Montreal, Wis., the oldest child to Richard and Margaret (Grasso) Zanetti. He was raised in Bessemer and after graduating high school, Albert served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Soon after, Albert began working at the Bonifas Conservation Camp in Watersmeet. He then became employed with Steiger's Lumber Company, where he later became president. He worked diligently for his dear friend, Paul Steiger, for over 59 years. Albert was a brilliant problem-solver with an incredible work ethic. He enjoyed going to work every day and spoke fondly of the days when he would "run" through the lumber mill.

Albert also proudly raised three daughters, Darlene (Keith) Gregory, Sharon (Mike) Krusey and Debbie (Robert) Pairolero.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Frank "Red" Zanetti. He is lovingly missed by his surviving family members including his daughters; sister, Lucille (Ray) Beling; sister-in-law, Katie Zanetti; grandchildren Jeff (Angie) Gregory, Jamie (Keitha) Gregory, Doug Brunelle, Amy (Chris) Bracket, Rob (Rachel) Pairolero, Amber (Dane) Quigley, and Ryan (Erin) Pairolero. In addition, Albert's memory remains with his great-grandchildren, Cole, Laura, Kayla, and Beau Bracket, Kyria and Eliya Pairolero, and Malia and Jaxdon Quigley.

Albert's family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain, as well as MGH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 16, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer. Rev. Antony Lukka will be the celebrant. Albert's family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Monday. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 27 and VFW Post 3673 combined Honor Guard.
